Milli Fire Update, September 11-14

September 11-14, 2017 Update

The Milli Fire acreage remains the same with 60% containment. Fire activity remains minimal with the majority of the activity from interior pockets of heat that will continue to produce smoke until a season ending event completely extinguishes this fire. Because of this, we will not produce another fire update until Friday, September 15.

Firefighters will continue to rehabilitate fire line along the northwestern edge of the fire area. Work continues in conjunction with Oregon Department of Transportation and the Sisters Ranger District to identify and remove hazard trees along Highway 242 and continue repairing and rehabilitating culverts, fire lines and burned areas along the highway.

Acreage on this fire could grow slowly in the coming week while containment remains at 60%.  The west side of the fire continues to burn down slope with occasional torching in pockets of timber in the Three Sisters Wilderness and will continue to extinguish naturally when it runs out of fuel in the lava fields. Fire will also continue a slow move to the southwest in the Pole Creek burn area where overhead hazards remain a concern for firefighter safety. When necessary, firefighter will utilize indirect firefighting tactics like helicopter bucket drops to cool hot spots.
