We’ve recently had members of public inquire about how they can show appreciation to our Central Oregon firefighters. Fortunately, when a team is assigned to an incident, that incident is self-contained. They bring along shower units, medical units and caterers, etc. so all of their needs are met.
However, if you are interested, firefighters always appreciate a thank you. If you want to make a card or a sign that the firefighters would see as they head out to a fire area, they would genuinely appreciate it.
If you are still looking for a place to donate, we encourage you to consider the Red Cross. At one point Sisters was under a Level 3 (Go Now) evacuation and the Red Cross provided a shelter for folks and are a great help in a time of crisis. Learn more: http://www.redcross.org/local/oregon
Finally, every firefighter will tell you that they value the work of the Wildland Firefighter Foundation (WFF). The WFF is there when a firefighter is critically injured or dies in the line of duty. They provide financial assistance with bills, counseling, help the family bring families together at the time of their greatest need. While our firefighters hope they never need it, they are comforted to know WFF would be there to take care of them if they did. Learn more: https://wffoundation.org/
