Central Oregon EVENING Fire Update

Central Oregon – Firefighters are currently responding to the Goose Paint fire burning predominantly on private land and some BLM, east of the Sutton Mountain area and 4 miles southeast of Twickenham, Oregon. The fire is currently 120 acres with zero containment. Several engines and single engine air tankers are responding.

Another round of lightning peppered Central Oregon today with over 250 strikes recorded in 24 hours. There have been no other smoke reports at press time.

The Castle Fire has been more accurately mapped at 16 acres and is 30% contained. Firefighters have been able to begin putting in direct fire line on the south side of the fire which has experienced growth due to debris rolling out of the fire area down the steep hill. An area closure remains in place for the Sisters Ranger District, which includes the Monty Campground.  Individuals and groups in the Perry South Campground have been cautioned that there is a fire in the area and have been encouraged to stay informed about fire operations in the area.

The South Fork Complex has increased to 24,085 acres.  Incident Command Post (ICP) has been set up at Gander Ranch near Dayville, OR. These fires are located approximately 20 miles south of John Day. For more information on this fire, call: 866-347-0636.
