 Central Oregon Fire Update

Central Oregon – Firefighters have responded to 150 fires in Central Oregon since July 28. The majority of those fires were started by ‘abundant’ lightning that accompanied several days of afternoon thunderstorms.

Lighting fires can take several days to begin putting up smoke so Oregon Department of Forestry, BLM and Forest Service firefighters will remain vigilant in patrolling existing fires and responding to new smoke reports. This week will continue to challenge initial attack efforts as low humidity and high winds are predicted across Central Oregon.

The Castle Fire is still listed at 22 acres and the Oregon-California Incident Management Team 2 has taken command of this incident and individuals with questions can contact 541-549-3219.
An area closure remains in place for the Sisters Ranger District, which includes the Monty and Perry South Campgrounds.

The South Fork Complex has increased to 16,981 acres.  Incident Command Post (ICP) has been set up at Gander Ranch near Dayville, OR. These fires are located approximately 20 miles south of John Day. For more information on this fire, call: 866-347-0636.
